Driven by depression, I started eating like a maniac and reached 215lbs at the age of 21, if not earlier. I was unhappy and food, being my friend, would offer me its short-lived comfort but only to be replaced by a pain of guilt later. My emotional being was not any better than my physical health. I was having constant chest pains, even when sitting  down while watching TV! I was afraid of having a heart attack so young. That's when my mind finally heard my body's warnings and decided to venture into the world of fitness. I joined a gym and lost 35lbs. However, I stopped working out. My body got tired of following an ordinary diet plan and working out ridiculous hours at the gym.  Two years later, I met with Kristin and with her help and exercising, I lost an additional 40lbs. Unlike the gym, Kristin educated me on proper nutrition and set up my own customized eating plan. Being 65lbs lighter my stamina and energy increased, plus my acid reflux and chest pains were gone! I'm no longer depressed and I feel great walking into a store knowing that I will find my clothing size easily. To this day, it's still hard for me to believe I was once 215lbs. My body never let me down but my choices did. Knowing that I'm finally taking care of myself is very self-fulfilling because my body has deserved it all along.  Having the right tools, on both nutrition and exercising are the pillars.

I have been an avid exerciser for many years & currently attend Farrell's. I've done kick boxing, resistance training, walking, and step aerobics, but exercise alone was not helping me lose or even maintain my weight.  My job was also making me fat.  Because I do not eat a lot of meat, everything that went into my mouth was carbs.  I was a carboholic!  I was sluggish, tired, and had no energy.  I have been on numerous weight loss programs (some more than once) where I’ve popped pills, counted points, and eaten pre-packaged foods.  Through Kristin’s personalized one-on-one coaching, I have learned so much about protein, fat, and carbs and how food fuels and helps your body burn fat.  I couldn’t believe how much better I felt after only a couple of weeks. Since September, I have lost 20 pounds and 29.5 inches and am half way to my goal. Overall, I just feel better.  I am stronger both mentally and physically.  Recent blood tests indicate my HDL (good cholesterol) has increased, which is good news.  I can’t imagine how I will feel when I get to my goal weight.  I keep reminding myself that nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.

Melissa’s Weight Loss Success
Lost 24 lbs, 34.5 inches & 12.2 % body fat!
After gaining several pounds, despite healthy eating and exercise, I consulted my physician. She, unfortunately, had no answers and even suggested a weight loss supplement. I knew that this would only be a temporary fix. Seemingly stuck in an overweight body, I decided to take matters into my own hands. At 27-years-old I knew I would only have this body once, especially once I became pregnant.
I scheduled my free consultation with Kristin and before I knew it I was on my way to a new lifestyle. The beginning was definitely a challenge; however, my weekly meetings helped me persevere. Eventually, the eating (counting carbs, fat, and protein) became second nature. The weight seemed to practically fall off after that. In fact, I even asked Kristin when I would stop losing weight! 
I had never experienced such success with a weight loss program. I lost 24 pounds, 12.2% body fat, and 34.5 inches!  I am now much lighter on my feet and have fallen in love with running. This past year I ran two 5Ks and I cannot wait to run a few more this year!

I have a long history of diabetes in my family.  My grandmother died from complications of her diabetes and my mother was recently diagnosed.  I decided I should go in for a physical.  My doctor basically told me that is wasn’t a matter of if I get diabetes, but when.  That scared me a little.  He said if I changed my diet I could prolong my chances of getting diabetes.
I have been an avid runner for a few years now, so working out came easy for me.  My problem was educating myself on nutrition and eating habits and balancing that with exercise.  My wife actually introduced me to Kristin at Nu Balance.  She taught me how to eat correctly with a healthy balance between carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.  She also showed me a new way to work out which included cardio workouts and strength training.
Within the first 10 weeks I had lost 10 pounds and 8% body fat.  I have more energy to play with my two children and am now involved in an Australian Football League!  But the most important thing I learned is proper eating habits can lead to a healthier lifestyle.
